Yoga Retreat in Kyrgyzstan

We are happy to set up this retreat and this unforgettable trip which will allow to discover Kyrgyz genuine nature and culture as well as to visit one the most beautiful country in Central Asia.
Issyk-Kdul lake « warm lake», of Kirghizistan is 182 km long (113 mi) 60km (37 mi) wide. It is the second largest mountain lake in the world behind Lake Titicaca. Located at an altitude of 1,607 metres (5,272 ft), it is surrounded by the summits of Ala Tau and Kungey Ala Tau mountains, two parts of the massif of Tian Shan at the borders of Kazakhstan and China. Kounguei’s chain which culminates at 4,771m and Terskei’s chain with highest point at 5’216m form a circle around Issik Kul basin composed of rocky crest and abrupt flanks.
The retreat will take place at the Yurta Village on the south shore of the lake, not far from Chinese and Kazakh borders. This aera is rather remote and is far from local and international tourists resorts mostly located on the North shore
The accommodations and local travels are organized by Ilona Sultanova who already has experience of leading tourist groups in her country. She also has deep knowledge of Kyrghiz culture; additional informations to be found on www.kyrgyway.com

Accommodation
Three Kirghiz yurtas of 50m2 to accommodate 4 to 6 persons are already booked.
Food at yurta village is vegetarian and cooked on firewood
Sanitary arrangements are available for yurta village residents
Climate of the lake is temperate and dry, the water is warm (the lake doesn't freeze in winter)
Other activities
Various activities can be organised aiming at discovering the area.
Yurta village welcome other groups mainly from Russia or nearby Kazakhstan. Festival "Eye of the Planet" is taking place possibly at the same period. It will be possible to meet other participants and to attend cultural events on site.
After six or seven days of yoga retreat, a short stay to Caravanserail Tash Rabat then to Song-Kol lake are planned. Then a tour of Bishkek will be organized to discover its cultural life, its arts and crafts as well as its rich markets. The accommodation for two nights in a hotel will be an additionnel charge (20 to 30 € per night). Other activities are possible within or not far form Yurta village: massages, horse rides, mountain trekking, fishing and swimming and boating on the lake.
All inclusive price
Including minibus transfers, accommadation, vegetarian food and yoga teaching: CHF 1'900.- The Geneva Bishkek flight has to be booked individulally. There will be also a possible group ticket to be negociated with Turkish Airlines. Various airlines fly to Bishkek: Turkish or Pegasus via Istambul, Aeroflot via Moscow and Ukrenian via Kiev. At this time of the year a ticket will cost around 500 to 700 CHF.
Detailed itineray
Saturday August 1st : departure from Geneva late afternoon or evening.
Sunday 2nd : Early morning landing at Bishkek Manas Airport, then transfer to the yurta village and accommodation. Possible yoga practice late afternoon.
3rd : to Saturday 8: Yoga practice according to the programme above
Saturday 8th : morning after the yoga practice departure to Kochkor, a village of traditional felt craftmen. Meeting with the craftmen and lunch. It will be possible to buy felt crafts. In the afternoon, departure to Tash Rabat. Night and dinner in yurtas.
Sunday 9th : day in Tash Rabat, open air yoga practice, visit of the historical site a caravanserail form the 10th century, possible trekking or horse ride.
Monday 10th : departure in the morning to Lake Song-kol, situated at an altitude of 3'000m, roof of the world covered by fields of edelweiss. A place to breathe a nearly artic air, to feel a very high vibratory rate. Some think that one can find there the entrance door of the realm of Shambala. Overnight stay and meals in yurtas in camp at the lake shore (comfortable and warm clothes are necessary).
Tuesday 11th : day at Song-Kol, trekking, horse riding, yoga and meditation.
Wednesday 11th : Departure to ashu guest house at Kemin midway to Bishkek at midday, overnight in the guest house, yoga in the garden shala.
Thusday 12th : departure to Bishkek and visit places of interest: museums, markets, Tour of the city, etc. overniight in a hotel
Friday14th : Visit of of Bishkek surroundings,
Night of Saturday 15th: transfer to Manas airport at around 4a.m. for the flights to Geneva.

Additional important information
Do not forget to bring your own yoga mat. Take also some warm clothes for possible cold nights, a pocket light or headband light and of course swim suits and sun cream etc. Prefer also Euros or USD to Swiss Francs in order to change SOMS when in the country.
Biographies
Pierre Hebrard
Pierre started to practice Hatha Yoga more than ten year ago. In 2009, he followed a teacher training course with Lance Schuler (Inspiya Yoga based in Byron Bay, Australia) and received a Yoga Alliance 200hrs Certificate. He then began teaching Hatha Yoga in Geneva. In parallel he went on practicing Ashtanga yoga and attended workshops and retreats with seasoned teachers like Mike Hannum, Brian Cooper, Michael Hamilton and Paul Dallaghan. Pierre is also an adept of Kriya Yoga practice. This very old technique has been rediscovered and taught by the great Guru Lahiri Mahasaya in the 19th century. His “sanga” has continued to pass on the knowledge and technique until now through Shibendu Lahiri, his grand-grandson. Pierre has also follows the teaching of Paul Dallaghan and Sri O.P. Tiwari, in pranayama, which he always tries to teach in his classes. Pierre teaches ashtanga yoga in Geneva in several yoga schools.

Programme
- Transfers from and to the airport of Manas in Bishkek (Kirghizstan capital town) to Yurta Village in Issyk Kul (4 to 5 hrs trip) and also to the other destinations (see below)
- Accommodation in Yurtas (4 to 6 persons per yurta) in a well kept environment in the middle of nature.
- Vegetarian food, cooked on woodfire,
- Daily oga teaching and practice
- Visit and stay in various sites like Caravanserail Tash-Rabat, Song-kol Lake, located at an altitude of 3'000m. Half day trip to sacred site of Tamga Tash, where old carved stones an be seen
- Visit of Bishkek, capital town, its curiosities, markets and museums
- Attendance of an guite all along the stay.
Daly yoga programme
- Morning: meditation, practice of pranayama (breathing), Kriyas (exercices) and chanting of mantras (1h15), followed by ashtanga or hatha yoga practice (1h30 to 2h)
- Late afternoon, other yoga practice to deepen certain asanas or restorative yoga (not in days of transfer to Song-Kol, Tash Rabat and Tamga-Tash sites)
- after dinner and before going to bed short meditation (i.e. Tatrak) or nidra yoga (yoga of the sleep).
- Practice will take place either in a big yurta (100m2) or on at the lake side. Teaching will be given in French or English, and possibly translated in Russian for potential local participants.

Ilona's Biography : Ilona
is a national of Kyrgyzstan and lives and works in Geneva, Switzerland. She
has a strong international background, speaks several languages, worked for
international organizations and
has attained two Masters degrees from Universities of Reading and Bern. She
organizes tours
and visits to her country Kyrgyzstan since 2007 and has led several groups
on discovery
journeys of this unknown and beautiful country. Her aim is to contribute to
the development
of eco-tourisim in the country as well as all forms of exchange based on
authenticity, traditional knowledge, respect
and love of nature. She also promotes hand made felt art from Kyrgyzstan by
women’s organizations. She
teaches and lectures on various themes including women and their
self-empowerment through various healing practices
that she has learned and applied on her own personal
journey of self-inquiry since 2005.
